Learn to meditate

As you set up for this brief guided meditation, wherever you are this summer, try and take the time for this brief meditation.

Let’s begin: 

  • Sit comfortably, in a chair or on the floor.
  • Take your shoulders up by your ears, drop them down your back to open your collarbone and elongate your spine.
  • Concentrate on slow, steady and deep breaths.
  • Whatever thoughts come to your mind – acknowledge and then let them go.
  • Take your gaze (drishti) to the tip of your nose, a fixed steady point or close your eyes gently –  making sure eyelids are relaxed.
  • Place your focus on breath; inhaling for a count of 4 and exhaling for a count of 4.
  • Focus on making your inhalation and exhalation balanced, steady and rhythmic.
  • Set your phone timer for 5-mintues.
  • If you’re too restless, start with a 3-minute practice and build up the length of time.

Try this meditation right before eating and notice the different mindset with which you approach your meal and your food. When we slow down we notice the beauty and complexity of food. We chew slower and notice the various flavors and textures of what we use to fuel use. This is one of the reasons we created Power of 3.
